Lillian Ross has been a staff writer at The New Yorker since 1945. She is noted for her pioneering work in "new journalism" in the 1950s, and is the author of several books, including Picture, her account of the 1950 making of the film version of The Red Badge of Courage; and Portrait of Hemingway, about the Nobel prize-winning novelist.
