Local War Stories: Robert Vinson

September 27, 2007
Robert Vinson veteran, Vietnam War, massage therapist

Robert Vinson discusses his personal experiences as a pilot during the Vietnam War, and in recovery from related, post traumatic stress.

The Forum Network has produced several short interviews that address the impact of wartime experiences on military service-people and their communities when they return home from active duty. These interviews investigate the processes involved in moving between military and civilian lifestyles and the role that creative practices might play in the reintegration process. Each interview is a portrait of an individual, personal experience. This interview is with Robert Vinson, a massage therapist based in Massachusetts. Mr. Vinson was also a contributor to a dance theater project, Silent Men Speaking, produced by Carl Thomsen, that dramatized his story, along with those of two other Vietnam War veterans, David Bianchini and Allen Gaskel. Silent Men Speaking aims to "chronicle the effects of war while not taking political sides...It simply attempts to put a human face on war, lest we forget its true human cost."
